British Lit--Thursday, October 31

Objective: Discuss chapter 1&2 of "Lord of the Flies" and continue working on island.

1- Students got into small groups and discussed each character: Piggy, Ralph, Jack
2-Book Talks
3- Students used the rest of the period to work on their "Perfect Societies."
They finished by the end of the period and will be presented next time.

Homework: Read chapters 3&4 and complete reading questions

American Lit--Wednesday, October 30

Objective: Read gothic stories and wrap up the unit

1- Students got into small groups to read/share their stories

2-Students picked the best story of their group

3-Students watched Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" and discussed how it is a gothic story.


Homework: Take home test--students are to complete the test at home by thoughtfully answering the questions.

1- We had a round of Book Talks
2-We discussed the Macbeth papers.
3-We watched a clip from "Lost" and completed a prompt
4- We began "How to create a perfect society" handout. see me next time

American Lit--Friday, October 18

Objective: How to brainstorm for word choice/topic?

1- Skill of the day--semi-colons
2- Creative Writing Practice. Using the everyday life to inspire!
3- Guided Imagery. Students listened to me read them a prompt while they relaxed. This was meant to help inspire them for word choice/images/ideas to use in their own papers.

If you were absent, please read the guided imagery while you listen to intense music. Then spend about ten minutes free writing on the graphic organizer. This will help you when you write your paper next time.

If you missed the end, you have two choice: go to www.pbs.org and find the online movie or read the summary. Use the internet. Be proactive. Try to make sense of what you missed if you don't want to watch the film version.

Homework--finish ACT V and come to class with your paper topic/question in mind. We will spend the day in the library working on it.

American Lit--Wednesday, October 16

Objective: How is fear a Gothic element?

1- We read the first ten minutes of class.
2- Students completed a fear personality profile and the class played four corners.

3-Students read the essay "Why We Crave Horror Movies" and practiced extracting the main idea. They also answered questions.
